1 3 dimethylamylamine is a very effective yet controversial active ingredient used in many pre-workout supplements. It’s important that you know what this ingredient does in your body and what dangers are included.
Is it beneficial to include this ingredient with your workout supplements? Or is 1 3 dimethylamylamine another dangerous ingredient that should never be consumed?
Reported Effects:
1) Increased mental performance
2) Significant increase in energy
3) Temporarily increased strength
1 3 dimethylamylamine takes roughly 45-60 minutes to take effect after ingesting orally. The effect lasts 4-6 hours. Some users experience a come down, but many don’t feel a harsh crash at all. It is considered to be 4-10 times stronger of a stimulant than caffeine. As for the sensation, users report that it lays somewhere in the middle of caffeine and amphetamine (so it’s quite powerful).
Tolerance is built up after consecutive use. Those who drink caffeinated beverages regularly will be less sensative to 1 3 dimethylamylamine. At the same time, for those who have never ingested 1 3 dimethylamylamine before, the first time they consume this ingredient he or she will be quite sensitive to it regardless. Generally after the 3rd to 4th consecutive use the dosage needs to double if not tripple for the same effect.
Because of this tolerance build up, 1 3 dimethylamylamine can become dangerous. Users crave to have that same stimulating effect, so they continuously increase the dosage which can lead to dangerous kidney problems. Those who really abuse this substance have known to trigger complete kidney shutdown. With that said, let’s go over the other possible dangers of this ingredient.
Possible Dangers:
1) Kidney failure (in cases of extreme abuse)
2) Can cause headaches and nausea (more common side effect)
3) Has been known to trigger strokes (rare)
FDA approved? NO
For males, users have also reported the effect of “stim dick” to take place. This is when blood can not fully engorge the penis thus not allowing for a proper erection. This effect makes sense since 1 3 dimethylamylamine is a vasoconstrictor. This means that it causes the blood vessels to dilate reducing the amount of blood flow. In 2009 the World Anti-Doping Society banned this substance.
Studies:
There are not many studies reporting scientific effects of this ingredient. What has been proven is that the stimulating effects of 1 3 Dimethylamylamine is significantly increased when combined with caffeine. Another desirable ingredient to stack 1 3 Dimethylamylamine with is Beta Alanine, which is found in Nurtex HEMO-RAGE Black Ultra Concentrate.
In 2009 there was one study performed to try and determine how 1 3 Dimethylamylamine reacts in the body. The research was published by University of Memphis’ Department of Health and Sport Sciences. The result was that the effects of 1 3 Dimethylamylamine could not be explained by circulating NR (nonresponders) and EPI (epinephrine).
The study went on to show that the peak of the stimulating effect takes place after one hour of consumption. The dosage experimented with was 75mg. Another interesting fact to note is that even though 1 3 Dimethylamylamine is considered to be a stimulant, there was not an increase in heart rate for the subject.

Conclusion:
1 3 Dimethylamylamine is an effective substance for stimulating the body and the mind that can have serious health repercussions when abused. Simple fact is, it’s banned by the FDA. It is now considered illegal in Canada. When taken short term in small recommended doses, there haven’t been any harmful side effects reported.
The problem is that the body builds tolerance to this ingredient, so people continually increase the dosage for the same effect. This results in consuming too much of the ingredient. As you noticed, there are many names for this ingredient. That can cause another problem. Many people who combine various supplements may be consuming a lot more 1 3 Dimethylamylamine than they realize.
Because of this, people can easily get into trouble with this ingredient. You need to be responsible and strict when using this chemical. It will increase your level of focus for up to 6 hours, provide your body with more energy, increase brain efficiency, but needs to be respected.
Since there is serious risk with this ingredient when abused, and it’s not FDA approved, we don’t recommend this as a great active ingredient to include in your supplement arsenal.
